Summer

Origin of the Hamilton Twp. Independence Day Parade & Celebration:
It all began in 2001 when three friends, Pat Cremeans, Sue Tomlinson and Linda Scott came up with the idea that there should be some sort of July 4 celebration in Hamilton Township that the whole community could enjoy. They formed a committee of three and met regularly. Once word of a parade and celebration in the park began to get out and embraced by the community--the trio became known as Three Women and a Parade.
Our local VFW Post 9035 consented to be the parade grand marshal that first year. Members of the post also judged the celebration's first contest.
In order to garner community participation for the parade, the celebration's first contest was born. Known as the "Spirit of '76" contest, participants were asked to create floats that best exhibited the "Spirit of '76." The three-women committee secured an Ohio State flag that had once been flown over the State House and an American flag that had once been flown over Washington, D.C.
VFW members judged that first contest and the flags were presented by a local State representative and a local U.S. representative to the winners of best decorated bicycle, children’s contest, and best decorated float, adult contest.
The celebration was truly a community affair and it grew even larger the next year. The event became a township government controlled function in its Fourth year.
In 2007 building on this highly successful annual parade Hamilton Township Fire Rescue, in cooperation with the Hamilton Township Park Board, turned this event into a summer celebration with rides, games, food, fireworks, but most of all fun!
In 2010, Hamilton Township took the initiative to seek new areas to incorporate a wider venue for the festival to include our local agricultural community. The original concept behind the community festival established in 2001 remained the focal mission, as new thoughts and ideas from our resident and business owners were gathered on how we can continue to make this summer celebration an annual event that continues to prosper.  In 2011, this family-friendly event was re-branded to be the “Hamilton Township Berry Festival”.

So if you are looking forward to a summer weekend of fun and you’re ready for a warm summer day filled with family, neighbors, and friends meeting at the park to enjoy live entertainment, fireworks, cotton candy, rides, games, lively booth vendors and some fresh berries, we hope you will join us at the annual Hamilton Township Berry Festival beginning on Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18 located at Testerman Park, 8373 Maineville Road.

The festival is free to the public and will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, June 17th and run until 11 p.m. featuring live music from “The Richard Lynch Band”.  The event will kick back into gear on Saturday with the annual parade at 4 p.m., live music from the “Webster’s” and concluding the festivities with a “Rozzi” fireworks display at 11 p.m.

Hope to see you’re smiling face in the crowd.
