Community

Hamilton Township is conveniently positioned in South Central Warren County.

Our township provides the perfect blend of quiet, rural living with the conveniences of modern life.

With approximately 29,000 residents, we still maintain the small-town feel. Hamilton Township is comprised of 35 square miles of family parks, biking and walking trails, the Little Miami River, restaurants, and so much more.

As you get to know Hamilton Township, you will quickly realize that you are not only joining a township, you are joining a community. As a community, we develop each of our 58 neighborhoods as reflected with our recognition in the Cincinnati Business Courier as the #4 “Top Areas for Home Building” in the greater Cincinnati area and #1 in Warren County. Finally, we look out for one another, as we are continually rated as one of the safest communities in Ohio and the #1 safest community in our area.

Warren County divided in May 1803

The Township's present boundaries were established by June 1818, bordered by the Little Miami River to the north and west, Harlan and Salem Townships to the east, and Clermont County to the south.

Settlement in the area began even earlier. William Mounts and five other families settled in Hamilton Township in October 1795. Mounts Station became the first recorded settlement in Warren County south and east of the Little Miami River, followed by settlements in the Cozaddale and Murdoch areas.

Hopkinsville, named for its founding Hopkins family, dates to 1808 and became a center for local trade, public gatherings and one of the area's earliest cemeteries. Yankeetown was established by settlers from Maine in 1815 and was later incorporated as the Village of Maineville in 1850.

Education and transportation also played important roles in the Township's development. The first school dates to 1804. Early roads included what are now U.S. Route 22-3, Fosters-Maineville Road, State Route 48 and Butterworth Road. The Little Miami Railroad arrived in the mid-1840s, supporting local mills and businesses before its former right-of-way eventually became part of today's scenic multi-use trail network.

Many of Hamilton Township's early settlements remain today as residential communities, including Cozaddale, Comargo, Zoar, Fosters Crossing and Murdoch. These communities were once thriving, largely self-sustaining centers within the Township.
