Hamilton Township Police Department's Commitment to Public Safety
The Hamilton Township Police Department is committed to using modern technology to enhance public safety while protecting the privacy of our community. As part of that commitment, the department utilizes Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology to assist in preventing crime, locating missing persons, recovering stolen vehicles, and supporting criminal investigations.
Approximately 70% of reported crimes involve a vehicle, making license plate reader technology a valuable investigative resource. Data collected by the system is securely stored for 30 days and is only accessible to authorized law enforcement personnel for legitimate public safety and criminal justice purposes.
What Is Flock Safety?
- Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology
- Captures vehicle characteristics—not information about occupants
- Provides real-time alerts for:
- Stolen vehicles
- Wanted vehicles
- Missing or endangered persons (including AMBER and Silver Alerts)
- Vehicles connected to criminal investigations
- Assists investigators in identifying suspect vehicles and establishing investigative leads
- Securely stores data for 30 days
- Used only by authorized law enforcement personnel
- Operates in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, department policy, and privacy standards
What Flock Safety Is Not
- Not facial recognition technology
- Does not identify drivers or passengers
- Does not collect personally identifiable information
- Not used for traffic enforcement or issuing speeding tickets
- Not used to monitor lawful activity or track individuals without a legitimate law enforcement purpose
- Does not permanently store vehicle data (records are automatically deleted after 30 days unless retained as evidence in a criminal investigation)
